About Watching Episodes
What
can I do on the site? -
top
You can browse tvnz.co.nz for all your favourite shows.
We have placed all of the shows into six categories so you can find your favourite programmes quickly and easily. Here are the show categories:
Watch Episodes - contains new episodes that were broadcast on TV ONE, TV2, TVNZ 6 or TVNZ 7 in the last seven days. This is where you can find the shows you missed on TV
Most Watched - contains content that was popular in the Watch Episodes category, but is now older than seven days
Latest News - has all the latest updates from ONE News and the current affairs shows
Previews - shows what will be coming up on air
Are there
commercial breaks? -
top
There will usually be a short commercial that plays before the
programme and between each part (or 'Chapter') of the show. After
the initial advert plays, click in the player and the show will
start to play. The show will automatically play all of the chapters
after the initial click to play.
How soon after on-air broadcast can I view online? - top
A recently aired show is typically available for viewing 12-24 hrs after broadcast.
How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter? - top
As a registered user of the tvnz.co.nz video service you will receive regular email newsletters. If you wish to unsubscribe from receiving these email newsletters, please click on the unsubscribe link within the newsletter itself, and uncheck the email frequency box in the form provided.
What is RSS? -
top
TVNZ syndicates its content using RSS (Really Simple Syndication).
This allows you to see when the website content has changed, using
external feed readers and other websites that can read RSS.
This means you can see when the latest shows are available as soon as they are published. It allows you to to subscribe to specific sections of the website and keep up to date.
You can use a news reader or an application that supports RSS like Yahoo Mail or Gmail. There are many news readers available, some of which are free. Some news readers are downloaded onto your computer and others are accessed with your web browser. You can then subscribe to an RSS feed. You will find the orange RSS logo featured across the site.
You can subscribe to an RSS feed by:
Dragging the logo onto your news reader;
Right-clicking the logo and selecting "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy
Link Location" to copy the content URL, which you can then paste
into the appropriate place in your news reader.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 1.5 will
automatically detect RSS feeds.
TVNZ RSS feeds are protected by New Zealand and international copyright laws and are available for personal, non-commercial use only.

How do
I find the show I'm looking for? -
top
Use the Search box function to search all content on tvnz.co.nz by
show title.
What is streaming? - top
A stream is a video that plays for you immediately from a TVNZ server.
The quality of a stream will be dependent on the speed of your broadband connection.
Why is my show not loading? - top
If you are having trouble viewing our videos and you have Norton Internet security installed on your computer you will need to allow ads to be served from tvnz.co.nz as there is a brief ad that plays before each programme (please check the help section of Norton Internet Security for advice on how to do so).
In some cases viewers are seeing a loading bar as soon as they click into a video, this means that Norton is blocking the ad and therefore you cannot access the programme as the ad will be continuously trying to load.
It is also possible that the time zone settings on your computer are preventing you from playing videos.
For Windows users:
Double click on the clock in the bottom right hand corner of your
computer screen. Click on the Time Zone tab. Make sure it's set to
GMT +12 Auckland, Wellington.
What if I stop playing my show half way through? - top
You can pause the embedded player and continue from where you paused. There is also a slider you can use to move through the programme as well.
Can I play shows if I live outside of New Zealand? - top
No. The shows have licence rights cleared only for within New Zealand.
Does it cost me to use the service or is it free? - top
TVNZ will not charge you for any of the videos or content you watch. It's all free.
Your Internet Service Provider (like Xtra, Vodafone, ihug...) may, depending on what package you have with them, charge you for the data used in streaming video.
System requirements
What are the minimum system requirements for watching video? - top
To have the optimum viewer experience, you will need to have the following requirements:
- Resident in NZ. If you live outside of NZ you will be able to browse the website but not view any content. This is because our content rights do not permit content to be viewed overseas.
- Flash Player 9 installed. If you do not have Flash 9 installed, you can get it from Adobe.com. Without Flash, none of the animated sections on the website will display and you will not be able to watch video on the site.
- Internet Explorer version 6 or greater OR Mozilla Firefox version 2 or greater. If you do not have IE or Firefox installed as browsers we cannot guarantee that you will be able to enjoy the full video experience, although Linux, Mac or Windows should all be fine for viewing video content.
- Broadband. If you do not have broadband and are using a
dial-up connection you will experience difficulty viewing the
site. Shows on tvnz.co.nz are dynamically played, so if
you are on dial-up it will be very slow to load each page.
Streaming content will tend to buffer and play in a disjointed
manner.
Can I use a browser other than Internet Explorer? -
top
We recommend Internet Explorer as the best way to experience video on the website.
Other browsers will work, but we cannot guarantee all functionality will work.
How can I get Flash and what version should I get? - top
To watch video content you will require Flash 10 or higher. For further information and to upgrade click on the following link: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
What sites do I have to unblock to watch my video? -
top
Some antivurus and firewall products cause problems with
viewing video. To view content on the site, you will need to
unblock both tvnz.co.nz and DoubleClick which serves ads on the
website.
Add the following sites to your antivirus 'whitelist':
http://tvnz.co.nz
ad.doubleclick.net
ad.au.doubleclick.net
ad.nz.doubleclick.net
