Challenge Two
Challenge Two (Episode 3)
CREATE AN ENTRANCE
The entrance is the first thing people experience in your garden when they arrive, so think about the impact it has and the impression it gives.
DO:
- Define the entrance to the front door of your house - make it obvious where visitors should go.
- Make it easy for visitors to get to the front door by avoiding overhanging plants, narrow walkways or too many level changes. If you must have steps, always make them evenly spaced and uniform height.
- Remember that the entranceway is one of the most frequently used parts of the garden, so make it attractive and inviting, even if it is only a short journey.
- Think about lighting for your entrance so that it is attractively lit, inviting and safe to use at night.
- Choose a gate that provides both security and privacy. Make sure the size & style matches the rest of the garden and the house appropriately.
- Use scented plants to make the arrival experience more enjoyable.
- Remember a well-defined entrance doesnt have to show everything
planting can be used to provide screening and to emphasise the
front door.
