Challenge Six
Challenge Six (Episode 7)
CREATE A SPECIAL AREA
Some gardens need their own garden! Consider planning parts of your garden that have their own special purpose, such as a play area for the kids or a little vegetable patch. These add dimension to your garden, and can expand the ways in which you use your garden.
DO:
-
" Make sure your special area is something you intend to use. It's no good having a vegetable patch if you only intend growing a crop of weeds!
-
" Think about what you want to use the space for and how you want it to look. For example: Do you want somewhere to sit and relax in? Or a safe and inviting play space for children? Or a place of visual interest with colourful/scented/interesting plants?
-
" Work out exactly how much space you need and no more and consider whether you want the area visible or whether you can screen it off with fencing or planting.
-
" Create a division between the special area and the rest of the garden if you need/want to, but remember it is important to maintain a connection between this area and what's happening in the area beyond your garden. For example: a Ponga fence can hint at native bush on the hills around a garden.
