We've introduced you to the new vampires in New Moon - now it's time to meet the wolf pack you've heard so much about.
On the other side of Forks, in La Push reside the Quileute tribe who for generations have protected their people from vampires. How you may ask? By transforming into wolves of course!
Being natural enemies of vampires, the wolves are not as enamoured with Bella as Jacob is. So who are these brooding young men that make up La Push's wolf pack?
Sam Uley
Sam is the leader of the pack (but not in a 1950s rock 'n'
roll kind of way). It is on his shoulders to protect his people -
the Quileute's - from the vampires, or cold ones.
The first of the Quileute's to transform, he had to go through it on his own and therefore has a role to play to help the newer wolves through their change, which can be dangerous. Sam was also the first of the wolves to imprint - find his true love in Emily Young.
Sam is played by Chaske Spencer, who at 6 foot 2 and with brooding dark looks should have no problem looking intimidating.
Jared
Jared is the second to join the wolf pack after the leader,
Sam.
As a wolf, he is described as having brown hair, swift, and big but not as tall as Sam.
Bronson Pelletier who was recently in New Zealand for the Armageddon Expo, plays Jared. The Canadian actor has appeared in only a couple of TV series prior to the Twilight Saga.
Paul
Paul is one of the Quileute gang who has the ability to turn
into a werewolf. He was the third to join the pack and is the most
volatile.
He is prone to angry outbursts which cause him to burst into his wolf form.
Paul is described as being massive, swift and has dark eyes.
Paul is played by Alex Meraz.
Embry Call
Relative newcomer Kiowa Gordon plays Embry Call, one of
Jacob's best mates and the fourth wolf to transform.
His transformation causes some trouble with Jacob and the pair become distant with each other for some time.
As a wolf, he is described as having grey fur with black spots and being swift.
Quil Ateara
Quil along with Embry makes up a tight three with Jacob - that
is until the transformations begin.
Quil transforms after Jacob and for a while thinks he has lost his two best mates as he doesn't understand what's going on.
Unlike the rest of the pack Quil enjoys being a wolf and is not tortured by what it means for his future. As a wolf, he has chocolate brown fur.
Tyson Houseman plays Quil and the role in New moon is his first film role.
