Kristen Jaymes Stewart aka Bella Swan was born April 9, 1990 in Los Angeles.
Her acting career started from an early age when an agent saw her in a school Christmas play.
That led to some minor jobs (such as the very glamorous Ring throwing girl in Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas) but she got a major break with a part alongside Jodie Foster in the 2002 thriller Panic Room.
After that breakthrough role, she found herself acting with Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone in Cold Creek Manor - and then onto the likes of sci fi flick Zathura.
But it was her role opposite Sean Penn on Into The Wild ( as Tracy a teenage singer who has a crush on young adventurer Christopher McCandless) which saw her garner much critical acclaim.
And it was while on set during the filming of Adventureland (which played recently at the New Zealand International Film Festival) that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke approached her for an audition for the role of Bella.
She has ambitions beyond Bella - as well as being a musician (like Robert Pattinson) she's taking on the iconic role of rocker Joan Jett in upcoming film The Runaways.
