What I'm about to write won't win me any fans. And I'm okay with that.
It's something that's been playing on my mind for a while now (however tragic a reflection of my mind that is...) and I just need to say my bit.
Twilight.
I just don't get it.
I don't understand the appeal of a moody, pasty teenager and her weird love triangle.
I don't get the books. I don't get the movies. And I certainly don't get the hysteria.
I was in LA last week, where Twi-hard mania was in full swing as the stars of the franchise completed the international film junket (where they talk to the world's media and discuss serious, in depth issues - like how good a kisser R-Patts is...)
Having seen Kristen Stewart talk to at least four different journalists, I have deduced that she is a particularly miserable girl, unworthy of teen adulation.
Likewise, Taylor Lautner seems to be a total bore - unable to make or take a joke.
Yes, I know he has a ridiculously ripped six-pack. I just don't care.
Robert Pattinson is the only one who seems to possess any redeeming features. And that's only if you shut your eyes long enough get past the hair...I don't understand that hair.
But overall, he seems alright. At least he has the decency to engage in conversation with the people interviewing him.
Which is the number one thing I don't understand about the Twilight phenomenon - why people are so painfully obsessed with stars that resent their very existence?
Kristen Stewart appears to have total contempt for both the vampire franchise and the fans.
Why support someone who basically thinks you're a loser?
Yes, it's a welcome antidote to the plastic smiles and media courting of Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. But surely there's a compromise?
Surely it's possible to be charming without oozing cheese. To self-deprecate without appearing totally sullen and miserable.
I realise I just sound old and grumpy now. But Twilight is a genuine mystery to me.
If anyone can explain the appeal - in a sensible, rational way - I would be very interested to hear it.
Because, thus far, I'm at a complete loss to understand it.
And Hunkin's not kidding. She really does want to understand the Twilight appeal. Comment below.

Hi Joanna, please read the books and write a blog about it, I would be interested if it changes your mind about the saga.

I agree, but for me it wasn't until I read New Moon that I became a fan.

What is there to get? I mean, come on. It's a series about a sparkling vampire stalking a teenage girl, who consequently falls madly into a spiral of obsession. But she, of course, has to deal with her life as a normal teenager, and all of it's drama: vampires trying to munch on her face, the werewolf boy of her dreams destroying the unstable relationship she has with her 'loving' boyfriend, and her best friends thinking she's an absolute freak. I mean, really. I cannot believe you don't get it.

Twilight just sucks....in fact it sucks so much, you need a new word, possibly several new words for it

Oh Dear! It seems that you wrote another blog without doing your homework again! May be the reason why you "don't get it" is that you did not read the books (it is obvious), you are too old to understand what teenagers are all about, you do not understand basic American teenager culture and will not be bothered to do some real research to learn about it. May be, it you took the time to do all of the above, you "will get it" and you may or may not decide that you do/or do not like the story.
