One evening a young Indian man on his way home from work was
severely beaten by a group of white supremacists.
Traumatised and psychologically scarred, his life was changed forever. One of his friends, Sanjay, became angry and decided to investigate why the attack occurred and who did it.
The TVNZ Heartland premiere of Under The Carpet follows Sanjay's
personal journey to uncover the perpetrators of racial violence and
his community's reaction to it.
What he uncovers is a pattern of victimisation of New Zealand's Indian community by the extreme right in New Zealand, and by other groups who perceive the passive Indians as easy targets.
The unwillingness of both the Indian community and the police to
label an attack 'racist' means many attacks go unnoticed or
