MIKE HOSKING, TONI STREET AND JESSE MULLIGAN TO PRESENT SEVEN SHARP IN 2014

17 December 2013

Seven Sharp will be fronted by two new hosts when it returns in 2014, with Mike Hosking and Toni Street joining current presenter Jesse Mulligan in the New Year.

TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs John Gillespie says, “We are thrilled to welcome Toni Street and Mike Hosking to the Seven Sharp team. I’m really excited about the contribution they’re going to make. Our viewers are in for a real treat.”

“Currently the host of our Breakfast programme, Toni is a naturally gifted broadcaster and an outstanding journo. She’s ready to make the move into a primetime presenting role. Mike is one of New Zealand’s most respected and versatile broadcasters. He has a long history with TVNZ and we’re delighted to be welcoming him back. We think our new team will take Seven Sharp to the next level in 2014.”

Airing each weekday, Seven Sharp is the people’s clear choice at 7pm for coverage and conversation about the stories of the day. Since its 4 February launch, Seven Sharp’s audience has shown solid growth – and is second only to sister channel TV2’s ratings juggernaut Shortland Street in its timeslot. Last month Seven Sharp was watched by an average audience of 357,500 (AP 5+)* each night.

“I’m proud of how the show’s performed in its first year out of the blocks. Seven Sharp has been a bold departure from legacy format current affairs at 7pm. Our viewers are looking for a fresh take on the stories of the day and a hint of irreverence and fun – and that’s what we are committed to delivering,” says Gillespie.

Current host Ali Mau will leave the show this Friday 20 December, when the show wraps for the Christmas break.

Gillespie warmly thanks Mau for her contribution to Seven Sharp this year. “Ali has been an integral part of launching Seven Sharp and the show has benefitted greatly from her involvement.”

Seven Sharp will return to TV ONE early in 2014 at 7.00pm weeknights.

TVNZ will look for a new presenter to join Rawdon Christie on Breakfast in the New Year, following Toni Street’s move to Seven Sharp.
