TVNZ appoints Nevak Rogers as Commissioning Consultant for Māori and Pacific Programmes

TVNZ has appointed Nevak Rogers as Commissioning Consultant – Māori and Pacific Programmes.

Nevak (Rongowhakaata, Te Whānau-a-Apanui, Whakatōhea and Tongan) joins TVNZ from Māori Television where she is the HOD of Content Development.

Cate Slater, Director of Content says, “Nevak is a hugely experienced and award-winning producer, presenter and commissioner. The expertise she can bring to TVNZ’s commissioning department will enrich our programming across all platforms. Our Māori programming is a taonga, which is reflected in our ongoing commitment to present Māori and Pacific perspectives. Nevak will be integral to this and we’re excited to have her join the team.”

Nevak brings more than 20 years’ experience working in the media. Her commissioning credits include popular series Find Me A Maori Bride and Sidewalk Karaoke. Nevak has presented and produced award-winning reality show Marae DIY, Polynesian Panthers and Ngā Tamatoa – 40 Years On, while her directing credits include a documentary on Che Fu and Tigi Ness, Sons from Afar and Through the Lens - The First 10 Years of Māori Television.

Nevak also served for eight years on Te Pūtahi Paoho, the Crown’s partner representing Māori stakeholder interests in Māori Television, and has been deputy chair at Ngā Aho Whakaari (Māori in Screen Production).

Nevak’s appointment strengthens TVNZ’s commissioning team, which is led by Jude Callen, General Manager Content Creation. The team is comprised of Head of Scripted Content Creation, Kathleen Anderson, Head of Unscripted Content Creation, Tony Manson, Commissioner Digital and Children, Amie Mills, and Associate Commissioner, Vicki Keogh.

Nevak begins her role at TVNZ on 16 April 2018. She will oversee long running programmes such as Te Karere, Marae, Waka Huia, Tagata Pasifika and Fresh as well as new commissions. Nevak will continue to consult with Māori Television this year on a contract basis.
