Tourism New Zealand is aiming to entice more young travellers from Australia.
Latest figures from Statistics New Zealand show visitor numbers from Australia were 4.3% higher this February compared to the same month last year.
Chief executive Kevin Bowler says the organisation is now looking at ways to increase the number of first-time travellers from across the Tasman.
He says tourism from Australia has shown 11 months of strong growth and a new campaign launched last weekend with MTV should help fire up more interest. He says several regional tourism campaigns are getting up to speed.
Bowler says there is real excitement about New Zealand as a destination and about the activities people can do here. He says skiing in particular seems to appeal to younger Australians.
And Bowler says despite the global recession, the number of visitors from China in the first two months of the year held steady.
