The Prime Minister is due to make a major tourism announcement at a conference in Auckland on Thursday.

John Key, who's also Tourism Minister, is speaking at the Tourism Rendezvous conference in Auckland.

His office is declining to give any specific details about the announcement but Key says it will be significant for the industry.

There's speculation it could involve a new national convention centre or an expanded Auckland port facility.
