Qantas baggage handlers have walked off the job in Melbourne causing flight delays and passenger congestion at the Tullamarine airport's domestic and international terminals.
A Qantas spokesman said 45 handlers rostered on Saturday walked off about 10.30am (AEDT) on Saturday causing minor delays to flights and congestion for passengers arriving at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport.
"Our baggage handlers at Tullamarine Airport walked off the job at around 10.30 this morning," the spokesman says.
He said "a handful" of baggage handlers had chosen to continue work.
The spokesman said the four-hour stoppage is illegal.
"Because it's come without warning and it is wild cat action we'll be taking this to the Industrial Relations Commission this afternoon to seek orders."
He said the stoppage had caused delays to incoming and outgoing flights.
"In the meantime we had contingency plans for alternate baggage handling and we've put that in place now and it's up and running - that's minimised disruption," the spokesman said.
Comment was being sought from the handlers' union.
