The Easter weekend traffic is already starting to build up with reports of a line at the Kopu Bridge two kilometres long.

The bridge is causing delays of up to 90 minutes and drivers are being advised to use the alternative route of State Highway Two via Hubbard Road, Paeroa where possible.

The queues north of Auckland are also already said to be lengthy. There is a tail back to just north of Puhoi on State Highway One.

There are also delays are beginning on the Kapiti Coast as people head out of Wellington, but there are no reports of anything more than an ordinary holiday jam.

A head on collison which left four injured on State Highway One near Hunty caused some delays. A small diversion was put in place.
