Billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson is a step closer to achieving his dream of sending man into space.

Moments after selling a third of his space venture Virgin Galactic to a middle east investment fund for $420 million, Branson took to the skies in his futuristic plane, dubbed the White Knight.

The plane is designed to lift spacecraft to a height of 15 kilometres before launching them into orbit.

Branson has already taken 300 reservations for his planned space adventures at a cost of over $300,000 each.
