New Zealand's national carrier may soon get a whole lot more comfortable for long-haul economy passengers.

Air New Zealand is this week set to reveal a significant upgrade to its aircraft interiors that will likely include more fold-down or fold-out features, according to The New Zealand Herald.

The carrier's long-haul airline boss Ed Sims told the Herald that passengers are looking for something that reflects their home environment, and that enhancing personal space was a priority.

And, with the increasing amount of gadgets passengers tend to travel with, the upgrade will include different storage areas close at hand in and around the seats.

Entertainment systems will also be upgraded with more frequently updated content, and more content from YouTube.

Details of the upgrade will follow its recently announced uniform revamp in which Trelise Cooper will design a crew uniform to be introduced next year when Air New Zealand launches its new fleet of 777-300 aircraft.
