About The Pacific
Mondays at 8.30pm
From the same creative team that brought you the masterfully
detailed look at the European Front of World War II in Band Of
Brothers 2001, comes the new series The Pacific.
Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman are the force
behind this epic drama that will follow the intertwined odysseys of
three US Marines during America's battle with the Japanese in the
Pacific, during World War II.
The Pacific tracks the intertwined real-life journeys of three U.S.
Marines - Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale), Eugene Sledge (Joe
Mazzello) and John Basilone (Jon Seda) - across the vast canvas of
the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
The miniseries follows these men and their fellow Marines from
their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the
rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu,
across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and through the horror
of Okinawa, until the war's end in 1945.
The Pacific is based on the books With The Old Breed by Eugene
Sledge and Helmet For My Pillow by Robert Leckie, along with
interviews conducted by the filmmakers and historian Hugh Ambrose,
a consultant on the project.
