Summer is Marissa's best friend and ex-girlfriend (and soul mate) of Seth Cohen.
Summer also had her life indirectly changed by the arrival of Ryan Atwood to Newport Beach. When her best friend got together with Ryan, she found herself hanging out a lot with Seth Cohen, Ryan's best bud. This led to her finally cooling her rich bitch persona and eventually realising that Seth was not the nerd she had always perceived him to be, but in actuality truly the man for her.
But once she realised this, she had to fight for her man against Anna. She eventually got together with Seth, but their relationship hit a hurdle when Seth failed to impress her father, whose opinion she so highly valued.
Then Summer was shattered when Seth sailed away at the end of season one after Ryan went back to Chino.
She got together with nice, dependable Zach over the summer break, much to Seth's consternation.
But when Zach and Seth teamed up for the comic book Atomic County, Summer found herself caught in the middle. Eventually choosing Seth, they endured a couple of hiccups in their relationship before ending the season as a comitted couple. Here's hoping it lasts this time.
