The TVNZ 7 Learning Hub explained
Welcome to TVNZ 7's Learning Hub, a destination for teachers,
parents and students offering quality education resources based on
popular TVNZ 7 programmes.
Through partnerships with other organisations we have compiled
education resources to suit the New Zealand curriculum. All of the
resources link through to our TVNZ OnDemand page where you can view
the accompanying episode.
Here is a background on the current resources available for use:
Meet The Locals
Curriculum areas:
Science, Social Studies
Target year levels: Years 7 to 9
Meet the Locals is a series of four-minute mini-documentaries created by TVNZ 7 in partnership with the Department of Conservation.
The series highlights the inspiring work of local communities, individuals and DOC staff as they strive to protect and enhance New Zealand's natural heritage. You'll find science units with a focus on our unique reptiles, insects, birds and sand dune environment. Volcanoes and the way they've influenced our biodiversity is explored and there's a social studies unit that discovers the reasons for maintaining treasures from the past.
The resources are written for Years 7 to 9 but teachers of
younger or older students can easily adapt them and find them
useful. They stand alone or can be incorporated into wider units to
match your themes.

These science themed resources have been produced in partnership with the Science Learning Hub and Biotechnology Learning Hub, with support from the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The series of 30-minute episodes, called Ever Wondered?, is presented by MacDiarmid Young Scientist of the Year 2009 Dr John Watt and answers challenging scientific questions as he talks to Kiwi scientists and researchers and joins in on high-tech and hair-raising experiments. Science Made Simple recognises that even the most well informed of us sometimes have gaps in our knowledge. This is the opportunity to have some of those gaps filled in a clear and entertaining way - and in just 60 seconds! The words and phrases explored in Science Made Simple range widely through the fields of physics, information technology, engineering and social sciences.
They are both written for Years 5 to 10 students, but can cater
