Simon Baker stars as Nick Fallin, the hotshot, corporate attorney who is sentenced to community service as a result of a drug conviction.
When casting The Guardian, the series producers found in Australian-born Baker the unique combination of star quality and depth of character they had envisioned for the title role. As for Baker, he welcomes the opportunity to play Nick Fallin. "Nick is very complex in nature," says Baker. "Its appealing to play a character who is constantly being challenged both personally and professionally."
Challenges seem to appeal to Baker. He is well on his way to gaining a following in the United States after successfully conquering his native Australia, where he starred in several shows including the popular drama Heartbreak High. This early career success motivated Baker to pursue roles in the U.S.
Since relocating to Los Angeles, Baker has certainly made the most of his opportunities. Immediately after he arrived in the States, he was cast in Curtis Hansons Oscar-winning L.A. Confidential. He also starred along with Val Kilmer and Carrie-Anne Moss in the Warner Bros. sci-fi epic Red Planet. And, in October 2001, he will play a lead role opposite Oscar-winner Hilary Swank in the period drama The Affair of the Necklace. Bakers additional film credits include Sunset Strip, Ang Lees Ride With the Devil, Judas Kiss, Restaurant, and Love From Ground Zero.
Baker has come a long way in the relatively short time since he received Australias prestigious Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in 1992. Today, the international star of The Guardian is poised to become one of Americas most popular talents, as well.
Baker currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and children. His birthdate is July 30.
