About the show
A new series of the trend-setting local book show The Good Word
starts on TVNZ 7 tonight, on the eve of New Zealand Book Month.
Award-winning local novelist and host, Emily Perkins, leads the discussion from the studio with an all-star book review panel, and interviews a notable guest on each episode about his or her favourite book; while reporter Finlay Macdonald is in the field with his Under the Covers series, investigating the stories behind famous New Zealand books.
Theres also a strand of two-minute documentaries called Write Space, which get up-close and curious about the creative habits of a variety of Kiwi writers.
Broadcasters Miriama Kamo and Carol Hirschfeld; funny man Te Radar; District Court judge Bill Hastings; actress Jennifer Ward-Lealand; and journalists Gordon McLauchlan and Steve Braunias, all return to the regular book review panel.
Among the special guests spilling the beans on their favourite books in the new series will be actress Robyn Malcolm, painter/ writer Jacqueline Fahey, arts patron Dame Jenny Gibbs, ex-Fair Go presenter Kevin Milne and rock singer Jon Toogood.
