Kyra Sedgwick returns to the hit drama as an eccentric detective with an outstanding ability to elicit the truth, and a tough as nails approach to her job.
Sedgwick is best known to New Zealand audiences for her role in such movies as The Woodsman, in which she starred beside her husband Kevin Bacon, and Something to Talk About, with Julia Roberts.
In The Closer, Sedgwick plays Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson, a transfer from Atlanta to the Priority Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. She is a world class interrogator, and her uncanny capability to get confessions from suspects makes her a 'closer'.
The elite squad Brenda is drafted into handles high-profile murder cases, and because of her tendency to step on people's toes, her position is a tenuous balancing act. Her unconventional style invites trouble, and she faces obstacles at every turn - even from her own peers. But she manages to convert even her strongest adversaries with her unique ability to get the truth, and her team forge ahead solving difficult crimes.
Brenda faces challenges both personal and professional. She's struggling to leave her demons behind her in Atlanta, and is thrust into a new life where many of her co-workers resent her because of her elevated position in the male dominated team. However, her primary focus is her job, and her impeccable talent for knowing a person's secrets and obtaining confessions, stems from understanding her own quirks imperfections and neuroses. No matter the personal costs she does whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if it means alienating others in the LAPD.
The Closer was created by the producers of Nip/Tuck, and executive producer James Duff says 'the primary reason the show is so successful is, of course, Kyra Sedgwick. She makes Brenda come alive for people.' The Closer is the first lead role in a dramatic series for two time Golden Globe award nominee Sedgwick.
Also starring in this series are J.K.Simmons (J Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films), Corey Reynolds (The Terminal) and Tony Denison (Melrose Place).
