About the show
The Chase is set around the world of the Chevin Chase Veterinary
Surgery in Yorkshire, which George Williams (Keith Barron, Where
The Heart Is, Duty Free) runs with his daughter Anna (Gaynor Faye,
Coronation Street, Fat Friends), son-in-law Tom and two other
practice partners, Rick Johnson and Ian Fraser.
Completing the team are nurse Fiona, outwardly confident yet hiding
a deep secret, practice manager and Rick's wife Deborah, who
suffers delusions of grandeur, and Matt, a trendy young
nurse.
When sixty-something George marries Claudie, twenty five years his
junior, he announces he is retiring and leaving the practice (and
house) to his daughters.
The news is greeted with some concern, especially when Ian Fraser,
a junior partner in the surgery, reveals he is also quitting.
With three young children to support, the birth of a fourth child
imminent and the news that Claudie has re-mortgaged their house,
Anna and Tom are forced to recruit George's other daughter, Sarah
(Nicola Stephenson, Holby City, Brookside), to help out in the
practice.
She's a glamorous city girl who takes some persuading to leave
behind her fast-paced city lifestyle.
With a multitude of animal illnesses to treat, the staff also
have to contend with a range of family tensions.
Despite a confident outward appearance, Sarah is affected by her
move back home.
She initially struggles with the responsibility and argues with
Anna, before eventually deciding to stop running away.
And when it becomes clear George is unable to leave the practice
behind, there are further complications ahead. Sarah and Anna want
to modernise the practice, but George is far from
convinced.
Tom and Anna are also having their own problems.
She is rocked to the core when it is revealed that George isn't her
biological father, and Tom also struggles with the knowledge that
young Theo is the result of his affair with Fiona.
When Fiona makes financial demands on him, he is forced to take on
additional work, but finds it increasingly difficult to keep the
secret from his wife Anna. But worse is to come.
Tom finds out that local man James, who everyone thinks is Theo's
father, has also being paying Fiona money.
Also starring Reece Dinsdale (Ahead Of The Class), Janet Dibley
(Eastenders, Fat Friends) and Heather Pearce (Ultimate Force,
London's Burning), The Chase is written and created by BAFTA-award
winning Kay Mellor (Band Of Gold, Playing The Field, Fat Friends,
Gifted), and explores the lives of a family of vets struggling to
run their Yorkshire practice whilst dealing with their emotional
baggage.
