The AD Show

Hazel Phillips

Hazel Phillips is the New Zealand advertising industry's leading reporter in her role at the National Business Review, where she delivers the newspapers Ad Hoc column in print and online each week.

Hazel has worked for several publications in both New Zealand and Australia, including New Idea, NW, M2 and Cleo (Australia), where she learnt that hair straighteners can also be used to iron a skirt.

A self-confessed pedant and lover of grammatical correctness, Hazel has subedited on a variety of publications including Woman's Day, NZ Woman's Weekly and Lucky Break, which is her favourite as it often has stories about midgets.

In her spare time, Hazel enjoys diving, hiking, skiing, playing lacrosse and crusading for the preservation of the subjunctive.

She has a BA(Hons) in French and German and a teaching diploma she has never used, as they said she would be a bad influence on children.

She is also taking post-graduate media studies, grappling with the proper application of the Oxford comma, and getting the cam belt changed on her 1995 Toyota Levin.
