It's been a sad, sad week for tennis fans. Especially tennis fans who appreciate hot, angry Russians.

Marat Safin's grand slam career ended on Thursday when he crashed out of the US Open in the first round. Never again will we be treated to one of his angry outbursts on the grand slam stage. And no one makes a tantrum look better than this tall drink of water.

Safin's professional career kicked off more than 10 years ago. In that time, he has picked up the US Open and Australian Open crowns, and destroyed a few hundred racquets (by his own admission).

And while much has been written about the aesthetic qualities of his compatriot, Maria Sharapova, we think Safin can more than hold his own in the good-looking-athletes-on-a-tennis-court stakes.

So, fare thee well, Marat. Racquet manufacturers around the world probably won't be sorry to see you go. But we certainly are.
