Humiliation for the New Zealand Fed Cup tennis team against Korea in the Asia/Oceania zone pool A opener in Kuala Lumpur.

Marina Erakovic and Sacha Jones have been thrashed by lower ranked opponents in the singles, losing the tie 2-1.

Erakovic, the Kiwi number two after her return from injury, wilted against her 272nd ranked Korean opponent, losing 6-3, 6-1.

Jones then followed suit by being crushed 6-1, 6-love by the Korean number one So Jung Kim.

Captain Marcel Vos says the Kiwi number one appeared rusty.

He says Sacha's been out for a couple of months and this was her first match back, but in reality both Kiwis were outclassed on the day and there can be no excuses.

However Vos is making no excuses after the dismal day and says they have the chance to bounce back against top seeds Japan today.

He says the way the tournament works you don't have much time to dwell on it and if they can beat Japan they have a chance to finish top of the group.

Top 100 players Kimiko Date Krumm and Ayumi Morita are in the Japanese team.

Jones and Erakovic teamed up in the doubles and took the match 6/4 /6/4 against Na-Ri Kim and Min Hwa Y.
