Kiwi tennis ace Marina Erakovic has progressed through to the second round of the Birmingham Classic with a walkover win against Japanese Ayumi Morita.
The tournament ninth seed led 5-0 in the opening set when Morita retired. It was the first time in six meetings the New Zealander, currently ranked 46th in the world, had beaten her rival, ranked 84th.
Erakovic enjoys a good record on the event's grass court, contesting the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles last year, and reaching the 2008 singles semis.
She now meets British teenage hope Laura Robson, who ousted American Grace Min 6-4 6-1 in her opening match.
