Shot of the day
Roger Federer was hardly pushed in his match against
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga but he did provide a couple of regal
moments.
One shot in particular, where he shaped to play a drop shot and at the last possible moment changed to a three-quarter court forehand slice was particularly special.
Question of the day
"Were you expecting anybody from the corner of Muhammad Ali to
throw the towel in the middle of the match? - Italian journalist
manages to baffle Federer once again.
Match of the day
The world number one doubles combination of Cara Black and
Liezel Huber put up a great fight before losing in two tight sets
to the world's best duo - Serena and Venus Williams. They may only
play part time, but the sisters are streets ahead of all the
dedicated doubles players.
Quote of the day (1)
"It would be the first title for British tennis for what -
150,000 years" - Federer plays upon a nation's misery as questions
are posed about Andy Murray ending Britain's long grand slam
wait.
Quote of the day (2)
"We've run out of tape and been borrowing from everyone. It's
quite hilarious, though" - Serena Williams as yet another body part
has to be taped up before battle
Player of the day
Roger Federer. An absurdly one-sided semi-final against a
player ranked in the top ten. And afterwards gave a very amusing
interview with Channel 7 commentator Jim Courier to "make it a bit
more entertaining".
Stat of the day
Serena Williams and Justine Henin have both been world number
one for extended periods and have played each other on 20 different
occasions but this will be the first time ever that they meet in a
Grand Slam final
Moment of the day
In a very flat semi-final the highlight for many of the media
was spotting former Miss Universe Australia Erin McNaught in the
crowd at Rod Laver arena. No photos possible though!
Fan of the day
The poor French Tsonga fans, resplendent with banners, face
paint and plenty of hope, who had absolutely nothing to cheer about
during an incredibly one-sided match on Friday night.
Foodwatch
The Bratwurst ($8.50) complete with traditional mustard sauce
was unusual, not bad but nothing like what you would taste on the
streets of Berlin. A colleague, baking in 30 degree heat while
watching the women's doubles final in the Grand Slam Oval, was most
surprised to find none of the food outlets in the garden idea
selling ice-creams.
