The elderly are participating in texting workshops held by youths as part of International Youth Day.
Teaming up with Age Concern's Manukau branch, the Mental Health Foundation urged people of all generations to connect with each other on International Youth Day on August 12.
The theme for the year was dialogue and mutual understanding. The aim was to encourage partnership between youth and older generations as well as across cultures.
The texting workshops would give youth the opportunity to share their knowledge with the older generation and were so popular the one being run in Manukau was already at capacity.
Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation Judi Clements said for the elderly to have the opportunity to sit down with technologically-savvy younger people was really helpful in keeping them connected.
