A roll bar for quad-bikes has taken out top honours at the Fieldays innovation awards.
The LifeGuard ATV Rollframe was designed by Vernon Suckling to help prevent injury and save the lives of farmers using all terrain vehicles.
Figures from the Department of Labour show quad bikes accidents cause an average of 850 injuries a year, and have been responsible for around 120 deaths in the last 10 years.
Suckling's invention is designed to keep an over-turned quad bike off the ground and prevent its driver being crushed. The judges said it was a large improvement to all industry.
Other prizes were awarded to a natural farm method of composting animal waste, a de-budding device which mimics the movement of a human hand and a more effective electronic feeding system.
Suckling won $5000 cash, a certificate and a trophy for the his invention.
