A new cyber crime unit has been set up to protect New Zealanders from online scammers.
Police say fraudsters are becoming ever more frustrated as internet banking customers improve their security. They say the Cyber Crime Centre will have four full-time staff by Christmas.
Their priority is to patrol the internet looking for cyber crime. They will also keep track of the frequency and the number of people being scammed to build a bigger picture of the problem.
