A free social media platform aims to help New Zealanders vowing to quit smoking as a New Year resolution.
A nationwide smokefree challenge starting on January 14 will harness the power of social media and connect people who want to quit with supporters, tools and games to help break the nicotine addiction.
The technology platform Goalpost goes live for sign-ups from today.
People will be able to set their own quit goals, invite friends and family to support their quit attempt, as well as providing opportunities to connect with others with the same goal.
Co-founder Siobhan Bulfin says research shows people are much more likely to quit smoking if they have support and achievable goals to work towards.
"We also know that people are more likely to achieve their goal if challenged and rewarded."
Bulfin says a key element of Goalpost is that it's fun with game elements rolled out during the quit challenge and supporters able to pledge special treats to keep participants on track towards their goal.
Goalpost has partnered with Quitline and the Health Sponsorship Council (HSC).
