Facebook is expected to debut as a public company soon.

Details of a stock offering could occur by the middle of this week.

US Correspondent Richard Arnold says the site has 800 million users worldwide, with 150 million photos uploaded daily.

Richard Arnold says the latest move will bolster Zuckerberg to be one of the richest - and youngest - people on the planet.

The BBC reported the flotation is expected to raise about NZ$12.14b for Facebook, compared to the NZ$2.3bn Google raised when it went public in 2004.

Facebook was started in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and a group of peers at Harvard University. Most of its money is made through advertising.
