Gizmodo.com has reported that a 27-year old Apple software engineer has been identified as the unfortunate employee who lost the new iPhone.

The technology blog identified the "kid" as Gray Powell, a 2006 graduate of North Carolina State University.

It said Powell visited the Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City on the night of March 18, and forgot the the prototype phone on a bar stool when he left.

Another customer noticed the phone and asked around for its owner with no success. During the time he waited for Powell to return, he played with the device. It's allegedly disguised to resembeled the previous model iPhone, the iPhone 3GS.

Gizmodo has sinced purchased the next-generation iPhone from the unnamed finder.

Since then Apple has been in contact with Gizmodo , saying it wants the phone back.
