Ancient Rome has come alive, with Google Earth unveiling a three-dimensional virtual version of the city.
More than 6,500 buildings that stood in the city at the peak of the Roman Empire in 320 AD are virtually accessible to anyone using free Google Earth software.
The programme allows online visitors to swoop in for close-ups of structures, and pop-up windows give information on monuments such as the Colosseum.
Rome is the first ancient city recreated at Google Earth, and more ancient sites may be available in the future.
