The region is topping the national statistics for unemployment and many families are living in poverty which could be why the region is not happy with the National government.

Iwi warns public away from whale’s resting place on Himatangi Beach

Local iwi Rangitane o Manawatu are calling on the community to not disturb the resting place of a massive whale. The whale believed to be a Pygmy Blue washed ashore on Himatangi Beach in the Manawatu on Saturday evening. A large crane was used to drag the carcass to its final resting place in the sand dunes where it washed ashore.
