The Maori Party says it's unacceptable for National to breach the Treaty of Waitangi by pushing ahead with its programme to sell shares in state-owned energy firms. But both the Maori Party and National will be hard pressed to satisfy the differing views of Maori on the matter of water rights.
Conflict of interest allegations against Hall in court
Prominent Maori lawyer Donna Hall is in the high court today fighting allegations of conflict of interest. Hall, who is involved in the water rights case, disputes the charge against her where it's claimed she acted for the seller, buyer, and a lender in a deal for a block of land in Taupo.
Whanganui council loses bid to keep Wilson out
The Whanganui District Council’s case opposing the decision to release a sex-offender in its area has been thrown out of court. The arguments over the controversial release conditions of notorious sex-offender Stuart Murray Wilson were played out in the Wellington high court today. The Whanganui District Council opposed the move with the backing of local iwi.

Iwi Leaders bid successful at Polynesian Forum Meeting
The trip of four iwi leaders to the Cook Islands ahead of the Pacific Forum seems to have paid off. Leaders from Ngai Tahu, Ngati Porou, Te Arawa and Waikato met with Polynesian heads of state at the weekend. The Maori leaders are seeking a place on the Polynesian forum made up of countries like Cook Islands, Tahiti, Samoa and Niue.The Maori king's political spokesman Tukoroirangi Morgan spoke to us about securing a place on the Polynesian Forum and the role of Maori in furthering our Pacific.
