Ngāpuhi calls for police checks on its own Treaty negotiators
Ngāpuhi hapū are calling for police checks on anyone nominated to negotiate Waitangi Tribunal settlements on their behalf. There has been long term division amongst Ngāpuhi about the mandate of Tūhoronuku, the group formed to represent them in negotiations.
Māori Party disappointed with National’s stance on bill
The Māori Party has said that National's actions contradict its words on recognising the Treaty of Waitangi. National Party's opposition to the Oaths and Declarations Amendment Bill has angered the Māori Party. MP Te Ururoa Flavell says all MPs should be allowed the opportunity to pledge to uphold the Treaty of Waitangi in their work on behalf of all New Zealanders.
