Analogue TV or via Freeview satellite:

1. Press the Text button on your remote control to display Teletext. This is sometimes represented by the letters 'TXT' or as three horizontal lines.

2. Dial 801.

3. Wait a minute. If the programme has captions, they will begin displaying within 10 seconds. 

Via Freeview HD

1. Press the Subtitle button on your set-top box remote. This is sometimes represented by the letters 'SUB' or a line of dots at the bottom of a square.

2. Wait a minute. If the programme has captions, they will begin displaying within 10 seconds. 

MySky

At this time the closed caption option is only available on free to air channels on our network via the MY SKY decoders.

This can be turned on by pressing the setup button, then go into system setup, and then into system settings, and then into picture settings, and then changing the closed caption option to on and then scroll down and save new settings.

Which channels have captions?

To find out which programmes are captioned:

Teletext
The most accurate listing of the week's captioned programmes can be found on page 321 of Teletext. Today and tomorrow's listings can be found on page 320.

Web

Print Publications
The Listener (indicated by a black square), TV Guide (indicated by a black dot) and the NZ Herald (indicated by 'T')

Ear logo
Captioned programmes are also indicated by the ear logo at the beginning of the programme.

Electronic programme guide on Freeview set-top boxes
Press the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) button on your set-top-box remote. Scroll through the programmes, and at the bottom of the synopsis for each programme there will be an ear symbol if the programme is captioned.
