There were four giant, deadly waves of up to six metres, terrifying walls of water that swept ashore on a perfect Samoan morning.

When the waters receded more than a 170 people were dead, many more missing and whole villages destroyed.

Since that fateful morning ordinary people have been doing extraordinary things &a nation has rolled up its sleeves.

SUNDAY has been in Samoa recording some inspiring, moving personal stories.
