On January 11 2007 Andrew McAuley left his wife and child on a beach in Tasmania and paddled off into the Tasman. He was aiming to be the first man to kayak the 16-hundred kilometres to New Zealand.

McAuley gave up his job to confront his fears, terrifying storms and ten metre swells. He survived a tortuous and harrowing month at sea but disappeared just 80 kilometres from his destination. They found his kayak , they did not find him.

McAuley's story has been pieced together with actual pictures from the fatal journey and heart wrenching video supplied by his family.
