Tyler Read
Tyler Read was only five years old when he began acting in
commercials, short films and TV series, so could definitely be
considered an 'old hand' at the job at the age of 18.
Now he adds core cast member of Shortland Street to acting CV,
playing Evan, the only boy child of the show's Cooper family.
Born in Nelson, Tyler moved to Auckland with his family, including
an older sister and a younger brother, when he was two.
He secured an agent after showing an interest in acting and quickly
gained roles in commercials, and TV series, including an early gig
on Shortland Street when he was only seven, playing a character
called Oliver.
Tyler has worked on commercials both for New Zealand audiences and
for international audiences and has worked on an extensive list of
television shows over the years.
In 1998 he got his first television acting role at the young age of
six in the hit series Xena: Warrior Princess which was quickly
followed by roles on Hercules, Power Rangers and the New Zealand
kids show Amazing Extraordinary Friends.
The talented actor has also worked on several movies including
Glassman's Knight and Treasure Island Kids alongside fellow
Shortland Street actor, Beth Allen.
