We spoke to Shortland Street’s stylist Nicole Newman, about how she achieves Bella Cooper’s (Amelia Reid) quirky style.

Can you tell us a little bit about Bella’s look?

Bella is very experimental with her wardrobe.  She wears very bright and bold colour and pattern and will often wear this all at once.

What are a couple of classic Bella garments?

She has a bright turquoise blue dress with pleating at the front, and a layered mesh skirt tied at waist.  Her most recent addition to her wardrobe is a bright multi coloured floral peplum top.

What’s Bella’s signature colour palate?

Being a red head she looks fantastic is the bright bold colours such as green, purple, red and magenta pink.

Where are some good places to shop to get Bella’s style?

Sway Boutique, Top Shop, Kate Sylvester, State of Grace, Kathryn Wilson

Head of the Shortland Street Make-Up Department, Rebecca Elliott shares some handy hints about how she transforms actress Amelia Reid into her character Bella Cooper.

Make Up:

Bella is a very colourful character. We try to reflect this in her hair and make-up. Amelia has beautiful skin so we use MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation because it gives the skin a dewy finish. We follow this with MAC Blotting Powder for any shine.

Her eyes are a mixture of SMASHBOX ‘Champagne’ on the lid, MAX Satin Taupe in the sockets and navy liquid liner.

Cheeks are rosy and we use MAC Spring Sheen and lips are usually a bright bold pink or tangerine.

Amelia has lovely long locks. We start with a big roll brush blow wave. Then we do large GHD waves, these are brushed out after with a paddle brush. To prevent hair drying out, we have discovered Shine Shake by MATRIX. It’s a leave in conditioning and protection spray. We use this mid length to ends just prior to blow waving and it really works miracles.
