One year on from the tsunami that devastated Samoa,
Shortland Street's Teuila Blakely (Vasa Levi) is
heading to the Pacific to host a special anniversary concert.
Featuring several well-known New Zealand artists, the event hopes to pay tribute to those affected by last year's disaster.
Joined by Scribe, Savage, Dawn Raid, Adeaze, Feelstyle and several other exciting acts, Blakely says she's looking forward to giving something back to the Samoan people.
"We all went over last year to hold a concert, and the response was great. I'm really excited to being involved in something the whole island can enjoy," says Blakely. "I also love travelling with all of those boys. We've become good friends over the years and I always have a great time with them."
Blakely says that seeing the aftermath from last year's tsunami was a sobering experience.
"A few of us who headed over had family members who been directly affected by the event. Seeing the devastation was surreal and quite hard to handle," says Blakely. "But Samoan's are known for their resilience, so I'm looking forward to seeing all of our friends and families again, and seeing the progress that's been made in the last year."
Meanwhile, sparks continue to fly between Teuila's character Vasa Levi and her ex husband Maxwell Avia (Robbie Magaisva) on Shortland Street this week.
Though Maxwell is in a relationship with Sarah Potts (Amanda Billing), there is still a strong connection between Vasa and him.
"Maxwell was the love of Vasa's life. One of the reasons their relationship ended the first time was because of his gambling addiction, but now that he's moved on from that, Maxwell is back to being the man she always loved," says Blakely. "Vasa also knows how happy her daughter Ula (Frankie Adams) would be if they got back together and were able to be a proper family for the first time in a long time."
