Pearl McGlashan
At the ripe old age of just 17, Pearl McGlashan has already lead
a fascinating life and gained herself a diverse and
fascinating CV that would make people twice her age incredibly
jealous.
The daughter of well-known New Zealand musician Don McGlashan
(Mutton Birds, Front Lawn and Blam Blam Blam), Pearl was just nine
months old when her family packed up and moved to London where she
resided until she was five years old.
During that time, and even since then, she and her family have
travelled extensively around the world.
She first gained media attention as one third of the trio who made
up the band 'Bandicoot', which during its reign was frequently
cited by musicians and critics alike as 'the next big thing in
NZ".
Bandicoot released 2 EP's and topped the NZ Alt Radio Charts and
the 95bFM Top 10, scored slots at the 2010's Big Day Out and shared
the stage with Dimmer.
The band broke up in 2011 so that the trio could concentrate on
their other individual projects, but Pearl still considers music
very much a passion.
In 2009 she had a lead role in a short film Choice Night which has
recently screened in competition at the Palm Springs International
Short Film Festival, following screenings at Clermont-Ferrand
(France), BFI (London) and other festivals in Denmark, Prague,
Geneva (where it won Best International Short Film), Spain,
Melbourne, Brisbane and New Zealand.
Pearl has also modelled for NZ fashion label Binky and in a book
The Dress Circle: New Zealand Fashion Design Since 1940.
When she's not busy with
Shortland Street, Pearl
still attends high school which keeps her on her toes and means she
is a bonafide time management expert.
