The multi-talented Victor Rodger
Meet Victor Rodger - he is one multi talented and very
busy guy, with actor, writer and award-winning playwright just
some of his talents!
Victor appears on Shortland Street as Henry, friend of Maxwell
Avia.
How did you get your role on Shortland Street?
I arrived back from Thanksgiving in the States and found an email offering me the part.
How long have you been acting and how did you get your
first big break?
I went to Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School from 1995 - 1998. My first job out of drama school was one line on Hercules!
Name three similarities between you and your onscreen
character?
We're both mates with Robbie Magasiva
We both like to eat
We both have to suck it in when we tuck in our shirts!
What has been your best experience/scene on the show to
date?
Working with my mate Robbie - my first scenes were with him and I would've been a lot more nervous if he hadn't been there.
What are your hobbies outside of Shortland
Street?
I'm primarily a writer - I have written for Shortland Street
since 2000.
I love to travel - last year I went to the States, Samoa, Australia
and Brazil. This year I am going to see my little sister in
Korea.
What do you do in your down time during the day when you're
not shooting?
I'm normally writing something that was long overdue!
What is your favourite destination in NZ and overseas?
In NZ: Anaura Bay (East Coast)
Overseas: New York or Paris (They rock!)
What is your date of birth and what star sign are
you?
May 23rd Gemini
Who is the actor or actress that you look up to or admire
the most?
Robbie Magasiva (seriously). And Daniel Day Lewis, Jane Lynch (from Glee), Anapela Polataivao and Goretti Chadwick
What is the thing you enjoy most about going to work every
day?
Working with other people. Writing is a very solitary profession so it's really nice to be working with human beings again instead of just staring at a computer screen.
Do you watch Shortland Street at home? If yes, is it
strange seeing yourself on television or are you used to
it?
I normally catch the omnibus on Sunday. Haven't seen myself yet - I don't normally watch my own work, strangely enough.
What is your favourite television programme and/or film of
all time?
Film - All that Jazz or the Poseidon Adventure
TV - The Chapelle Show. Dave Chapelle is BRILLIANT
Which other actors/actresses do you like working with the
most and why?
Mostly work with Robbie (Maxwell), Adam (Kieran) or Matt (Isaac) - have had a good laugh with all of them.
Have you made any good friends amongst the cast and crew?
I used to work in the building as a storyliner so I knew a few of the cast and crew already.
Can you remember your first day on Shortland Street - what
was it like?
This is what it was like: FORGET about acting, just try and
remember your lines!!!! These guys move so fast, it took me by
surprise!
Remember to catch Victor as Henry, weeknights 7pm TV2 or watch FREE with TVNZ Ondemand
