Meet Pearl McGlashan
Pearl McGlashan plays Jasmine Cooper - Shortland Street TV2
We put Pearl McGlashan, who plays Jasmine Cooper - under our microscope.
How did you get your role on Shortland Street?
Extreme luck and thick glasses.
How long have you been acting and how did you get your first big
break?
I used have fake tantrums when my brother was annoying me to get
him in trouble.
I can still cry on cue so I feel that this helped my career.
Name three similarities between you and your onscreen
character.
1. We both have terrible eyesight.
2. We both have older brothers who are cheeky as.
3. I don't know if this is a similarity but I'm really jealous
of her wardrobe.
Which other character would you like to be and why?
Fleur Saville's character Libby was always my favourite because she was extremely bossy, effortlessly classy, and perpetually right.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of Shortland
Street?
Loud music, velvet dresses, mascara, tea, iced tea, matching socks, miniatures, The New Yorker Magazine, and cardigans.
What do you do in your down time when you're not
shooting?
I go to school!
What is your favourite destination in NZ and overseas?
My dad was in New York a little while ago and he said to me, "I
forgot (always forget) the way New York smells (coffee, diesel, air
conditioning), and how excited it gets me."
I can't put it better so I'm not going to try.
How many brothers and sisters do you have and are they older or
younger?
I have one older brother. He's totally brilliant.
What is your date of birth and what star sign are you?
20th of July, I'm a Cancer. I think it would be really fun to write horoscopes for a job.
Do you have any pets?
A cat. Her name is Jezebel. She is psychotic.
Who is the actor or actress that you look up to the
most?
Nicolas Cage. It's not a B-grade movie if he aint in it. I love him. All the non-believers out there in the anti-Cage community need to watch his Japanese Commercials. They're Gold.
What the thing you most enjoy about going to work?
I enjoy all of it. But I suppose the best thing for me is the
advice. Everyone just wants to help us because we're new.
As a young actor you couldn't really ask for a better job because
it's like a training ground, and everyone's so lovely and so good
at what they do.
What has been your favourite scene to film in your time at
Shortland Street?
It's been really nice to work with Jacquie Nairn who plays my
Mum, and Tyler Read (who, weirdly, is actually a good friend of my
brother's) who plays my brother Evan.
I'm looking forward to more scenes with them. And the rest of the
Coopers!
Do you watch Shortland Street at home? If yes, is it strange seeing
yourself on TV or are you used to it?
Me and my mum do! It's a bit weird remembering how you felt on the day you filmed a scene and being surprised how that comes through differently on screen.
What is your favourite food?
Vogel's Toast.
Are you from Auckland? Where did you grow up?
I was born in Auckland Central, but I was nine months old when we moved to London, and we didn't come back until I was nearly five years old.
Have made any good friends among the cast and crew?
I probably haven't been there long enough to say I've made good friends, but everyone's been amazing to me.
Can you remember your first day at Shortland Street? What was it
like?
I was very quiet and very nervous.
