Luke Durville
Doctor Luke Durville is a highly respected anaesthetist.
He works as a locum in the Auckland region.
Calm in a crisis and even tempered, Doctor Durville is a sought
after anaesthetist.
But despite his professional cache, Dr Durville chooses not to
socialise with his colleagues, preferring to spend his time
alone.
His pale, slightly Gothic appearance adds to the enigma surrounding
this private and insular man.
As well as an apartment in town, Doctor Durville owns a house in
the country. Considered to be something of a leader in his
field, he spends a lot of time overseas, speaking at
conferences. When he's away he rents out his
house.
Fascinated by the occult, Doctor Durville has studied the history
of witchcraft and necromancy, and he is also an amateur
taxidermist.
Doctor Durville left town for a while after Joey Henderson's
demise. He found the experience of being a suspect both
insulting and damaging.
He has been travelling to visit family overseas and stopped off in
Haiti on his way back to New Zealand to study their culture of
black magic and voodoo, in relation to traditional
healing.
He intends to write a paper on it for the University and hopes to
lecture on "Health, healing and the supernatural" on a part time
basis for the Department of Anthropology. This is obviously a
sideline to his day job.
Durville has gone back and forth between Central and Shortland
Street over the years, popping up at the Ferndale hospital many
times over the last five years.
In the entire time that Luke has been around Ferndale, the one
consistent thing has been Luke's desired to find a lady friend with
a similar interests and passions.
No one was more surprised than his close friend Bella when he
returned to Ferndale again in 2011 with a Romanian fiancé,
Zlata Waldheim.
Despite appearing to have very little in common, the pair seem
close, although Bella is still not completely convinced that Zlata
is the right man for Luke.
Luke finally realised that Bella was the one for him and he left
Zlata to be with her but had to save Bella from Zlata's father
Costel who tried to kill her.
