Jimmy is Kane’s father. He has always fulfilled his obligation to pay for Kane’s schooling and paid his alimony regularly. But that’s where the commitment stopped. He’s never had much interest in Kane personally – until now that his lavish rock-n-roll lifestyle (as a semi-famous lyricist and part time muso) has run aground, leaving him secretly broke.
That wake-up call made him question the way he’s been living his life. Now he’s keen to be a part of Kane’s life and make amends for his past disinterest. But, although his intentions are honourable, he’s still a flawed person, especially when it comes to parenting.
Charismatic and energetic, funny and thoughtful, Jimmy’s a classic good-time guy. He’s a ball of fun to be around, and has a special talent for making others feel they’re the centre of his world. But when life’s pressures hit, his flaws emerge: he hates delivering bad news, or being seen as anything other than the great guy he yearns to be. So he’ll lie to avoid that – or simply disappear until the good times roll around again.
Though he’s seen as famous, Jimmy doesn’t consciously blow his own trumpet; instead he’s wryly self-effacing in a world-weary way… but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy the limelight, or the regard he’s held in by others. Deep down, Jimmy just wants to be loved – but he hasn’t mastered the art of returning love yet, for all his best intentions. And he’s still hopeless with money, despite the fact he’s broke and owes the UK tax department a fortune. That‘s the secret he’s carrying when he comes to Ferndale – that, and the fact it means he’s effectively burned his bridges in the UK…
Recently we learnt that Jimmy is also Dayna’s father as well, which hasn’t necessarily gone down all that well with everyone involved. Jimmy’s seems determined to now step up and be the father figure that he hasn’t been for the past 20 + years, but is it too little too late?
