Former Shortland Street stars Owen Black (Dr Ethan Pierce) and Will Hall (Dr Kip Denton) are bringing New Zealand's very own Rural Western a town near you!

After three years of blood sweat and tears, Western thriller Netherwood is now primed and ready for a nationwide release.

To date, this 90 minute independent feature film, born out of the wilds of Waipara North Canterbury, has flown mostly under the radar. But after sellout screenings at the New Zealand International Film Festival in Christchurch last year, Netherwood is now ready to take flight.

On the 28th of January, producers/actors Owen Black and Will Hall will be taking Netherwood on the road. Screening in 21 centres over 29 days, this whistle-stop tour continues the can-do Kiwi attitude that got the film of the ground back in 2009.

Funded almost entirely by a handful of North Canterbury locals and created by a tight-knit group of highly skilled film professionals, this film is much more than just a labour of love.

Netherwood also stars former Shortland Street alumni, Xavier Horan who played bad boy Tai Scott.

"The way the local community in Waipara got behind us was just incredible," says Will. "And the script was just so good we couldn't go wrong," says Owen.Netherwood was written by newcomer John Argall and directed by Cristobal Araus Lobos. "This is an incredible debut by John and it has been expertly handled by Cris. It's good old fashioned storytelling at its finest," says Owen.

In keeping with the independent spirit of Netherwood, Owen and Will are taking the film directly to the people themselves. "We're keen to get our film out there and have a good time while we're at it",says Owen. "Yeah come see the film and have drink with us," says Will. "We've got lots of goodies to giveaway and we reckon the film is pretty good too."
