Two of Shorty's favourite teens talk about what it's like working on NZ's favourite drama!

Sophie McIntosh

How do you balance your school schedule while as well as working on Shortland Street?

Lucky for me I have graduated now but at the end of last year during exams I had to be very careful with my time management and would try to fit as much study as possible in at the studio when I wasn’t on set.

You guys all look like great mates on the show, do you get on well in real life too?

Yes we are all great friends on and off screen, which is good because we spend so much time together!

Is it nerve wracking working with the other well-known actors on Shortland Street?

At first it was a little intimidating but now I see it as a great opportunity to learn from them and hopefully use this to improve my own acting.

What’s the best part of working on a show such as Shorty? And the worst?

The people and environment we are exposed to. We are so lucky to get this kind of experience at such a young age and with such an awesome bunch of people.

What’s in store for your character on Shortland Street in 2014?

Honour has quite an emotional winter ahead, and some scary experiences which have people worried about her.

What's your earliest Shorty Street memory?

When I was really little my mum was a nurse on Shorty and I remember watching some of the B-cuts we had at home.

How do you balance your school schedule while as well as working on Shortland Street?

I just use my spare time in between scenes and on the weekends to put extra study in and finish homework, as well as working extra hard at school! ;)

You guys all look like great mates on the show, do you get on well in real life too?

Yeah we do, I think that’s what helps make our friendship on the show look believable.

Is it nerve wracking working with the other well-known actors on Shortland Street?

Not really, I see it as a bonus to work with them because they have loads of experience and you can learn a lot from them acting wise.

What’s the best part of working on a show such as Shorty? And the worst?

One of the best things about shorty is the people I work with, everyone is really good at what they do and there is always room to have fun. One of the tough things about working at shorty is the pace at which scenes are shot and if you feel you could have done a scene better than you did, there may not be enough time to re-shoot, sometimes you only get one shot at it!

What’s in store for your character on Shortland Street in 2014?

A lot of sadness, Heroicness (that’s not a word but it fits perfectly to what I’m talking about), mischief and drama!
